" Chain pub giants J D Wetherspoon are set to trial a new ‘Muslim friendly’ themed day in a bid to attract customers from the ever growing Islamic community. It is set to pilot in Sheffield, Leicester and Luton next month and will feature a full range of halal dishes and will even have an alcohol free period between the times of 12pm to 6pm. "
" Martin Green, a spokesperson for Wetherspoon said, “We like to think that we can cater for a wide range of different cultures within the community. Some of our pubs are located in predominately Muslim areas but a lot of Muslims are put off from coming in because of the stigma that comes with pubs and the drinking culture. Our aim is to create a place where they can have a coffee and a meal with friends and show them that pubs aren’t all about drinking alcohol. "
" The Muslim friendly day will initially start as an afternoon event but if successful there are plans to run it concurrently with the chains most popular day ‘curry Thursdays’, meaning they may become Britain’s first pub to have a completely alcohol free day. "
