I have added 32 new schools to the list of those confirmed as serving Halal Only.

The problem with getting information from schools

What is becoming clear as I research this deeper is that just about every local authority in the UK is now serving halal in most but not all of its schools. 

The provision of School Meals can be broken down into roughly two groups, those schools that use the local authority's meal provision service and those who have opted to use private company's (like the Compass Group). It seems more and more schools are choosing to opt out.

Local authority's only have information about Halal meat for those schools who use their service and this information can usually be obtained from the local authority using a Freedom Of Information Request (FOI Request). 

The local authority does not hold any information about what is being served at those schools who opt out. These schools are still subject to a ROI Request but you have to make it direct to each school which is time consuming and can take weeks to get any kind of answer.

Why are schools opting out and using private catering companies?

There are many reasons why a school would opt out but normally it is because the school wants control over what is served to its pupils, either to keep costs down but increasingly its so it can control the food being provided (eg. Halal).

You only have to look at the list of School Governors to see that there are many names on the list that look like they could be Muslims. Of course none of the other School Governors are going to argue against it as they do not want to be see as racist or Islamaphobic.

Also a lot of schools are being placed under great pressure by local Muslim groups especially groups of mosques, this has happened in inner London, Bradford, Leicester, Bolton, Birmingham and all over the country.

This wont stop unless parents group together and stand up for themselves. Its your country and your morals too, do you really want your kids being subject to Islamic law and eating Islamic food while at school?

Do you really want your kids eating animals that have been slaughtered by having their necks sliced open while they are still conscious and able to feel that terrible pain?
